Sygnum Enters Lugano with Bold Bitcoin Push

Sygnum, the digital asset bank, has launched a new office in Lugano’s Plan ₿ HUB, boldly advancing its mission to reshape the future of Bitcoin finance and seize leadership in regulated digital assets.

This high-stakes expansion brings Sygnum closer to its rapidly growing local client base, including external asset managers, entrepreneurs, and private investors — all within the epicenter of Switzerland’s Bitcoin innovation zone. It is also shows the direction of Bitcoin adoption – moving from first movers to early adopters; we are now seeing the infrastructure being built to court the mass affluent. It is still early.

Custody is at the centre of this daring land grab. Paradoxically, while blockchain was supposed to remove the need for middle men – affluent clients want a trusted third party when accessing bitcoin and blue chip cryptos. For bank’s this is a welcome ironic bonus.

Custody battle

Sygnum’s hopes to create a high-trust, regulated environment for digital assets – and amplify its position in Lugano’s burgeoning crypto and blockchain scene. Other innovative Swiss bank’s such as Syz are also providing custody and trading options – as the digital asset market offers a new banking battleground.

“Opening in Lugano is a game-changer for Sygnum and for Bitcoin’s role in global finance,” said Sygnum Chief Client Officer Martin Burgherr.

“We’re here to lead, to pioneer, and to make Bitcoin-backed banking mainstream. Lugano’s forward-thinking regulation and digital asset ecosystem make it the perfect launchpad for our boldest ambitions yet.”

High-trust hub

From secure custody to advanced trading and crypto-backed loans, Sygnum’s suite of offerings is designed to support both institutional and individual investors in navigating and benefiting from the digital asset world, with an assurance of regulated, high-security banking.

Sygnum’s office is strategically located within the Plan ₿ HUB—a unique initiative between the City of Lugano and blockchain leaders that positions Lugano as a global Bitcoin powerhouse.

Plan ₿ is transforming Lugano into a model of urban Bitcoin integration, enabling residents to make everyday purchases and pay municipal taxes with Bitcoin and other digital currencies. Now, with Sygnum on-site, the Plan ₿ ecosystem is poised to gain additional momentum, driving Bitcoin adoption and practical blockchain solutions in ways that set Lugano apart on the world stage.

Michele Foletti, Mayor of Lugano and President of the Plan ₿ Foundation, enthusiastically welcomed Sygnum’s arrival. “Sygnum is exactly the visionary partner Lugano needs to cement its status as a global hub for blockchain. Their commitment signals that Lugano is primed to redefine the digital finance landscape. Together, we can build a financial infrastructure that’s future-ready and enriches our economy and community.”

New financial forum

Sygnum has launched ₿itcoin@Sygnum— an initiative designed to revolutionise Bitcoin’s role in finance through groundbreaking partnerships, pioneering research, and cutting-edge Bitcoin products.

For Sygnum, it is a declaration of intent: to become the global leader in Bitcoin-driven banking and accelerate Bitcoin’s adoption across institutional and retail spheres. This initiative reinforces Sygnum’s belief that Bitcoin is not only a digital asset but a transformational force in global finance, with far-reaching implications for investment strategies, asset diversification, and financial sovereignty.

Sygnum aims to build a dedicated center of Bitcoin excellence, positioning itself to dominate regulated Bitcoin finance through the development of innovative products, deepened technology integration, and industry-leading thought leadership. For now, other banks will be watching but we expect this to become a very crowded space.
